Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Crowley Takes Fallon 250 Victory

Irvine, Calif. (July 26, 2010) – Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jon Crowley drove his Kawasaki Teryx to victory at the fifth round of the Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) series in Fallon, Nev. Although the race was held at night, the drivers faced extremely hot conditions, leaving the Teryx to show off its durability. With one win under his belt, Crowley took over the lead and ended the race over 40 minutes ahead of second place.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Under the Tent

Hot Hot Heat
With temperatures reaching over 100 degrees when the green flag flew at 6:30 p.m., Crowley knew it was going test the machine and his endurance.

"The key to our win at the Fallon night race was the power and reliability of our Muzzys built 840cc Teryx v-twin engine," said Crowley. "We were first off the line, and steadily increased our lead for five laps."

One For The Desert
After winning a race already this year on the short course, Crowley had yet to conquer the desert format coming into the race in Nevada.

"This is my first season racing the full VORRA series, and after a win in the short course earlier in the year, we have had a tough time in the desert," said Crowley. "I feel with this win, I got the monkey is off my back and I am looking forward to the next few races."

Final Desert Race
The next race in the VORRA series is the final desert race before the series returns to its short course format. With Crowley winning one of each format, he is prepared to put his Kawasaki Teryx back on the top of the podium now that he has conquered each respective race type.

“Unlike some other teams that run one machine for the desert and another for short course, I am running my Kawasaki Teryx for both,” said Crowley.

Each race draws over 60 racers between multiple classes available for Cars, Trucks, Pilots, ATV, UTV and Trophy Karts. UTVUnderground in Pismo for the 4th of July!

The 4th of July to me is the best holiday of the year.  It's sort of like the coming out party for summer and at the same time its this great nations birthday.  Usually my 4th of July is spent close to home, BBQing with friends, and topping the evening off with a grand fireworks display somewhere local to our home in San Diego.  Well this year we decided to mix it up a bit.  I rounded up my wife and kids, hooked up with our good family friends the Fernandez's and headed on up to Pismo Beach, CA (Oceano Sand Dunes State vehicluar Off Road Park) for some off road fun on the sandy beaches of California.

I was a bit skeptical of Pismo Beach for the last couple of years.  Its a good 5hr drive for us coming up from Southern California and people have told me that the riding isn't all that great.    Then again I have had plenty of people tell me that Pismo is awesome and although the Dunes are not large like Glamis it is still pretty epic to be duning on the beach!  SO with that said I decided it was time to make up my own conclusion to what i thought of Pismo Beach and the Oceano Dune's.  For the trip I brought along our Polaris Ranger RZR4 Robby Gordon Edition which I had just added a new Pro Armor front bumper and a pair of Baja Designs Soltek Fuego HID's.  I had just taken it to Glamis for some night riding but now was excited to get to put a whole weekends worth of dune miles on what I already think is an awesome machine.

I cant even describe the excitement I felt when we finally rolled onto the beach of Pismo on Friday morning.  It just felt awesome to actually be driving on the shore of this amazing coastline knowing that in just a few minutes I would be ripping up the dunes while watching the waves break!  After putting the truck in 4wd and airing down the UTVUnderground tow rig to 15lbs of air in each tire we crawled onto the soft sand to the spot where we would make camp for the next few days.  My one recommendation to anyone who heads to Pismo is to make sure you have 4wd!  I cant begin to tell you how many people we saw buried to the frames in 2wd cars, vans, and trucks.  The sand is soft and the tide comes in quick so be prepared and be smart.

The riding in Pismo was a blast.  The sand is soft and the ocean backdrop is just amazing.  The dunes themselves are not that large and you can cover the entire riding area in a day but one thing no one told me before is that Pismo is a jumpers paradise.  What I mean is everywhere you look is a lip to boost off of and that's exactly what we did.  We found some fun hills to play on and overall I thought the riding was awesome.  Sure it would be nice if it was larger or if the closed sections were open but considering we were on the beach in 75 degree weather and not riding in 110 degree weather it made it all that much better.

In between riding we took the kids to the shore, in the RZR4 of course, and looked for sand crabs and clams.  The kids played in the water while the adults enjoyed beverages and snacks.  The evenings were filled with BBQing and of course FIREWORKS!  I really enjoyed Pismo, it is a place I plan to attend at minimum once a summer.  Next time I hope we bring a convoy of UTVUnderground UTV's to run around in!!

Austin Kimbrell and Kawasaki Teryx™ Continue Hot Streak in Utah

Irvine, Calif.– Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Austin Kimbrell kept his win-streak alive with another pair of wins over the weekend during the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series at Miller Motorsports Park. The UTV Unlimited driver increased his win streak to four, while Monster Energy/Funco/Kawasaki driver Chad George increased his podium streak to five with two second-place finishes in his Kawasaki Teryx™. Wrapping up the podium both days was Kawasaki’s Tyler Winbury who made his second and third trips to the podium this year in Utah. The Kawasaki Teryx made its most dominating appearance of the year, sweeping the top-five spots on Saturday and top-four on Sunday.

Make That Four
Kimbrell’s third and fourth win in a row didn’t come with an easy start to the weekend. He suffered a big crash on Friday and wasn’t sure how the rest of the weekend was going to go. He qualified third on Saturday and was able to jump from his third-place starting position to first in just two laps. Kimbrell qualified a little better on Sunday in second, but the battle for first during the race didn’t come easily. George was right there giving him a hard time, but Kimbrell ended up pulling out the win.

“The race on Sunday was one of the best races I’ve ever been in,” said Kimbrell. “Chad (George) and I were going back and forth the whole race. It ended up coming down to the end, which always makes it more exciting.”

Getting There
Reigning champion George has been Kimbrell’s fiercest competitor race after race, fighting back and forth for the lead and eventually taking second-place both rounds in Utah.

“We definitely want to win, but we have come a long way and have the speed to win,” said Team Owner Grant George. “It’s been hit-and-miss with some things we try and it seems like we finally have everything coming together. The Kawasaki, no matter what team, seemed to be the most reliable machine out there this weekend.”

On The Podium
Winbury tied his best performance of the season scoring two hard-charging podium finishes for the weekend. Although he started outside of podium position, Winbury kept pushing and put himself in position to prove he was podium worthy in third.

“On Saturday, I was really happy with how the race turned out,” said Winbury. “I ended up with fastest lap time of the race. I didn’t qualify as well on Sunday, but it was a great race and I made the pass for third on the last corner of the last lap. It was a great race.”

Coming To Southern California
The LOORRS circuit returns to Southern California with its first-ever event at Glen Helen Raceway on August 7-8. With a streak already in play, Kimbrell and his team look to tie their previous record of six wins in a row.

“Our main goal is the championship and it feels amazing to have the points lead after the opening round we had,” said Kimbrell. “We have won six races in a row before so I hope we can tie that with a good weekend in California.”

All the hard work has paid off, Success in Utah , Back to Back Podiums

The Lonestar Racing SR1 Team had a very interesting weekend, packed with highs and lows. We were welcomed into one of the nicest race tracks in the U.S. , Miller Motorsports Park . This facility is 1st class, complete with asphalt pits, garages, huge covered grandstands, on site race fuel station, showering facilities, indoor race control complete with timing monitors, and the list goes on. Things were a little disorganized as this was the 1st event LOORRS has put on at this park, so it was to be expected. Once we finally got our pits set up after having to move it twice, we put in a brand new clutch into the car, because it was slipping on the last testing session.

After the first practice session, we realized this was going to be a tough weekend. The track was one of the biggest we had been on, but they added a lot of obstacles to keep the speeds down, and the excitement up. With only a few short hours before the next session, Greg decided that some shock changes were in major need, so we began to make some pretty major changes to handle the very different track. With about 15 minutes to spare, we headed out for 2nd practice. The changes really helped the car perform. Greg was able to power through the rhythm section, and hammer down through the larger woop section, and get enough speed out of the corners to clear some of the doubles on the front stretch. While looking for some different lines, Greg hit a finger in the S section, and that kicked up the back of the car, and sent it into a violent cartwheel that flipped the car end over end about 4 or 5 times. Amazingly, Greg walked away without a scratch, let alone any soreness thanks to his Simpson Safety gear and Jet Trim seating that kept him locked in place. The car on the other hand, wasn't as lucky. The front right side of the car took most of the punishment, as it destroyed a wheel, spindle, brake rotor, tie rod end, brake line, uni-ball stud, and ball joint. The front bumper, upper shock mount, and body mounts got bent, along with the back bumper. Overall, the car was in really good shape with all things considered. Luckily, between us, and Weller Racing, we had enough spares to get us back on the track for Saturday's qualifying and Main event.

Greg qualified in 2nd position for Saturday, so he was able to enjoy another start from the front of the pack. After the green flag, he quickly realized he was getting brake fluid all over his feet, from a leaking reservoir cap. Not knowing how much longer he could go, he kept pushing. In second place with only a few laps to go, Corry Weller spun out in front of him, and he almost plowed straight into her, but luckily, he was able to glance off the side of her and continue into 1st place. Unfortunately, the hit ripped off Corry's front wheel putting her out of the race. He was able to secure 1st place for Saturday's main!

Sunday was time to do it all over again. In qualifying, Greg was only able to put in 1 lap before broken motor mount bolts caused him to pull off the track. So it was again time to start at the back of the pack for the main. Starting in last place, he was able to work himself into 4th pretty quickly, and battled with Tyler Herzog for a few laps, getting into 3rd place, and getting knocked sideways and having to fight back to get into 3rd for the competition yellow. The car was running perfect, and was fast through the rough sections where others couldn't run as hard. Within 2 laps, he passed Doug Mittag for 2nd place, again behind Corry Weller. He was on Corry's bumper for 2 more laps and went for the pass in the rhythm section. Unfortunately, he had just a little too much speed, and caused him to fly out of control, hit a jump sideways, bounced off a water barrier, and back onto the track loosing some ground. The car was shaking violently from the rear end, and was leaning very hard into corners, so with good communication from his spotters, he was able to keep it in 2nd place for the remainder of the race. After taking a quick look at the car after the race, it suffered from a rear wheel half full of dirt from hitting a jump sideways, and caused a rear sway bar link to break, so damage was minor, but felt a lot worse.

So to conclude the weekend, after thinking our chances were slim with a broken car in the beginning, we battled through getting the car back into race form, and got on the podium with a 1st and 2nd place in just the 3rd weekend of the series. Combined with a couple cars that did not show up will drastically help move us up in the points after such a successful weekend.

We for sure have to thank all of our sponsors for supplying us with flawless parts that can take the abuse of a super rough track. At the end of the race, Greg said his arms and hands were so tired, he could barely remove his gloves, he was so worn out!

We are very confident we will be getting top finishes for the rest of the season, and hopefully can get up into the battle for the championship!

Next race is at Glen Helen, in Southern California , the weekend of August 6th. Make sure to come out and see all the action!
