MEMORIAL MONUMENT IN HONOR OF RECENT CALIFORNIA 200 RACE CRASH VICTIMS TO BE UNVEILED AT 2010 LUCAS OIL OFF-ROAD EXPO ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9

POMONA, CALIF. (September 15, 2010) – Off-Road community members, racers, volunteers and companies in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management will gather on Saturday, October 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the 2010 Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo for the unveiling of the California 200 Memorial Monument, a large scale statue designed to honor the victims of the recent desert race accident where eight were killed and 12 injured. The 2010 Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo will invade the Pomona Fairplex Saturday, October 9 through Sunday, October 10, with everything off-road including new vehicles, thousands of parts and accessories, ATV test rides, freestyle motocross action and more.

“The annual Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo is where the Off-Road Nation comes together, making it naturally an appropriate place to unveil the memorial,” said off-road industry spokesperson and California 200 memorial project co-chair, Marty Fiolka. “This will give the families of the victims, supporters, fans and the entire off-road community an opportunity to reflect on this terrible tragedy.”

Families of victims and those directly affected will have a private unveiling of the monument prior to the public event at the Expo on Saturday. The need for a public unveiling is evident with the outpouring of concern & support the industry and fans off-road have shown over the past few weeks since the tragedy at Lucerne Valley. “The California 200 incident impacted the off-road community and industry at large,” said Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo Show Director, Tom Gattuso. “We were honored to be asked to host the unveiling and have plans to make the monument a centerpiece of this year’s event.”

The monument is comprised of steel and concrete and is in the final building stages. The public can all make their mark on the monument as well in the form of a wall available for all to sign and show their support for victims and their families. After the public unveiling on Saturday, October 9, at 10:30 a.m., the statue and the wall will remain on display throughout the weekend at the expo and then both will be placed permanently at the desert crash site.

The Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo has also named FAST-Aid the official charity for the 2010 event. FAST-Aid is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial, educational and personal assistance to injured off-road racers, support teams and their families following a motor sports racing incident. “To assist in the fundraising efforts for victims, one dollar from each 2010 Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo ticket purchased at www.offroadexpo.com with discount code FAST-AID will be donated to Fast-Aid,” said Gattuso. “In addition, any online ticket buyer will have the opportunity to make further donations to Fast-Aid at the completion of the ticket purchase process at www.OffRoadExpo.com for any amount they choose.” For more information on FAST-Aid visit www.fast-aid.org.

This year’s expo showcases all the latest off-road toys, technologies, parts, gear and accessories from more than 300 of the industry’s leading manufacturers, dealers and distributors. Off-road manufacturer representatives will be on-site to demonstrate and educate attendees on all the latest vehicles and accessories. In addition to the line-up of trucks, Jeeps,

UTVs, ATVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, sand rails, rock crawlers, parts and accessories on display, the Expo will come to life with exciting entertainment features including: all new Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Exhibition will feature high powered, high jumping race trucks on a closed-circuit course; freestyle motocross Can-AM ATV test drives on the Can-AM/BRP Commander Demo Course, professional RC Car racing; celebrity appearances; live music; bikini contests; and more.

2000 UTVUnderground Members!!!! Thank You!

Well today we hit 2000 registered members on UTVUnderground.com! That is 2000 legit members, no spammer accounts, no paying members to sign up and participate, and no combining websites!

Not only do we have 2000 members now but we have over 20,000 people visiting the site each month from over 90 different countries!! Not bad considering we are just a little UTV site started in early 2009.

I am so proud to be a part of this site and to see us grow without the name Rhino, Teryx, RZR, etc... in our site name is both amazing and difficult at the same time. The site has developed due to hard work, gorilla marketing, and word of mouth. Without every single member on this site we wouldnt be where we are and for that we are thankful!

There are many cool things coming about this year/season with UTVUnderground. With the introduction of the first mini line of UTV clothing from UTVUnderground and 4130, the talks of a UTVUnderground Invitational GP race, and may spectacular group rides already being planned, 2011 looks to be even bigger for the underground. Not to mention to be the first forum based UTV site to be invited to manufacturer vehicle media intros by Polaris, Arctic Cat, and Kawasaki and the first forum based UTV site to be sponsored by Monster Energy!! UTVUnderground is turning heads and gaining our love of UTV's some much deserved respect!!

Seeing the site and sport grow due to our hard work prompted us to be the first to also put together a reliable and up to date site for another up and coming sport, Tophy Karts. So this year we introduced TKUnderground.com (Trophy and Stadium Kart Forums) to the mix! Along with our UTVUnderground Industry News Blog (UTVUnderground.com Industry News Blog) and our popular UTVUnderground.com on Facebook pages we are really turning into a UTV media giant!

So thank you to everyone who continues to support us and help us grow. We enjoy providing up to date information from in and around the UTV industry and look forward to many more years of growth!!!

Thank You AGM, Fast-Aid, RDC, and JD Films!

On behalf of UTVUnderground and TKUnderground I want to personally thank all of our friends at All German Motorsports, Fast-Aid.org, Race-Dezert.com, and JD Films for all of their awesome efforts into making last Sundays Dezert People 8 movie premier one of the best events I have ever attended. UTVUnderground was proud to help put this event together and we look forward to participating again next year!!

The event was scheduled long before the accident that occurred at the MDR California 200, the event was already supposed to be a fundraiser for Fast-Aid, but once the accident occurred the event took on a whole other meaning. The off road community showed up in full force, packing the K1 Speed parking lot, donating money and just enjoying the atmosphere. Race vehicles from Trophy Trucks, Class 1, and every other form of off road were on display for everyone to see. UTVUnderground brought out the FatRod and served up Ice Cold Monster Energy to the crowd. Team Driver Mike Lasher brought out his Monster Energy Kawasaki Teryx for everyone to enjoy and brought his boy Pellagrino out who brought along his GenRight KOH Rock Buggy.

All German Motorsports organized the event for the 2nd year.  Baja Pits provided endless tacos, UTVUnderground sponsor 4130 Clothing supplied good tunes along with California 200 memorial shirts that have so far raised well over $5000.00 for the California 200 memorial fund. K1 Speed donated portions of all their profits from Sunday to Fast-Aid as well. Another UTVUnderground sponsor and friend Randy Weisser of Off Road Warehouse not only has donated his time and facilities for fund raising efforts in light of the Cal 200 accident but also matched all of the money donated on Sunday as well. ORW has gone above and beyond with showing their support for the race truck driver Brett Sloppy and all that lost their lives that dark day.

I was able to participate in 2 of the fun races that day, the Media Goon race and the FatKid race. Both of which were a total blast!!! We had a special guest in the FatKid race, driver Brett Sloppy who was the unfortunate racer to crash into the people at the Cal 200 came out and joined in the festivities doing his part to help raise some money as well. Brett feels terrible about what happened but he was showered with love and confidence in that the off road community stands by him 110%.

TKUnderground organized a Trophy Kart kids race in which the winner was able to compete in the evenings Celebrity Race! TKUnderground driver Danny Molinda schooled the competition including UTVUndergrounds own Doug Mittag and RJ Anderson.

In all the day was a huge success for our friends at Fast-Aid.org and for the families affected by the tragedy at the Cal 200. The off road community has once again come together to show just how much support we have for one another. The day ended with the premier of the hottest off road video to come to DVD in 2010, Dezert People 8. Made by our friend Curtis Guise the Dezert people series of movies truly is the best off road series of films ever created. You have to check out DP8, get your copy today!!

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this amazing event! See you all in 2011!!!

Grab Your Helmet and Hit the Trail! Destination Polaris’ Second Season is Here

Minneapolis, September 1, 2010– Last year, Ron Schara Productions and Polaris Industries forged a partnership on Destination Polaris, a program about the passions of America ’s off-road riders. The first season brought viewers a great variety of off-road adventure and due to popularity, the show is back for a second season.

From diehard hunters to weekend riders, Destination Polaris is the authority on ATVs and Side-by-Sides. Last season, hosts Jared Christie and Laura Schara, rode along with off-road enthusiasts to discover remote destinations and the best of North America’s trail systems including riding deep in Alaska ’s bush country, experiencing the endless sand dunes of Southern California and journeying through Northern Ontario ’s largely undiscovered fall trails. Destination Polaris’ second season promises to take viewers to more unforgettable destinations such as the beautiful “Big Sky Country” of Montana , a journey around Lake Superior and the gorgeous trails of Utah to give them a riding experience like no other.

“Polaris is a company founded and led by off-road riders, so the riding experience is very important to us,” said Jan Rintamaki , marketing director of the Polaris Off-Road Division. “Destination Polaris brings our passion for off-road riding to Outdoor Channel viewers so they can share our culture and love for the outdoors.”

Destination Polaris airs on Outdoor Channel, on Mondays at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m., and Tuesdays at 2:30 a.m. Eastern Time. For more information on the show, go to www.destinationpolaris.com.

Two new exhaust systems from Muzzys for the Commander

Two new exhaust systems from Muzzys compliment the already powerful Can-Am Commander 1000.

Both systems feature large diameter, triple stepped head pipes that merge into the exclusive Muzzy siamese collector and out into large diameter 16" mufflers. The 2-1-2 design achieves proper scavenging with no restriction in flow. The result is seemingly unlimited top end power with low and mid range increases that ordinary dual exhaust systems can't touch.

The low and aggressive "small block" exhaust tone is unmistakable. Sound testing resulted in only 96 decibels (92 decibels with the available Whisper Core kit).

Dual oval aluminum mufflers feature billet aluminum inlets and oultets. The Standard mufflers have dual turn-downs with polished billet exhaust tips. The Race mufflers sport pollished billet aluminum faceplates.

Both systems include the Muzzy Modular Endcaps with USFS approved spark arrester and quiet cores included. Available with polished, brushed or black Teflon® muffler finishes.

• Designed exclusively for the Can-Am Commander 1000
• Available in two styles - STANDARD - for stock cargo bed or RACE -
for bed delete kits
• Large diameter triple stepped head pipes
• Exclusive siamese collector increases low and mid range power
• Large diameter dual oval aluminum mufflers (available in brushed,
polished or black teflon)
• Billet aluminum muffler mounting brackets
• Front and rear oxygen sensor bungs
• USFS approved spark arrestors and quiet cores
• Awesome V-Twin Sound - 96dB (92 with optional Whisper Cores)

Muzzys was established in 1988 by Rob Muzzy to offer "factory" level racing engines to the privateer as well as high performance exhaust systems. Rob's racing endeavors have earned him 21 AMA National Championships in Superbike, Supersport, Drag Racing, Dirt Track, Motocross plus a World Superbike Championship. This Championship winning experience goes into every product that Muzzys manufactures. Muzzys' latest racing efforts have helped to create industry leading exhaust systems and performance engine upgrades for all popular Side x Side UTVs.

California 200 Memorial T-shirts are being produced by 4130 Clothing for Fast-AID.

We have received a lot of questions from tons of people who were affected by the California 200 racing accident the other weekend. Being that 4130 is a major sponsor of Sloppy and his Misery Motorsports race team, we thought it was only appropriate to pitch in as much as we can and produce the memorial shirts that are needed for this tragic accident.

Fast-AID has put 4130 in charge of handling the production and distribution of the California 200 memorial T-shirts. These are the OFFICIAL memorial shirts for the Fast-AID foundation and 100% of the sales will go directly towards Fast-AID to be dispersed to the families who are in need right now.

We have pulled together as many resources of ours as possible to make the memorial shirts come together at zero cost. Printing services have been donated by Liquid Graphics. Design services donated by Built By Media. Shipping fees comped by Fedex. And many other individuals have been involved with making this memorial shirt project come together such as Joey D and Rusty from UTV Underground, Kyle from All German Motorsports, and all the support from the guys who run Fast-AID.

Because everyone has been so generous and willing to donate their time and services, we will be able to sell these memorial T-shirts at the low cost of just $10 per shirt. We will run them from size small through 3XL and they will be printed on black T-shirts only since this is a time of grieving for many people. The first run of shirts will be a 1000 piece order. If we sell all these shirts that equals $10,000 in Fast-AIDs account which will go directly to those who have been most severely affected by this tragic racing accident!

The shirts will be sold at the Dezert People 8 premiers across the country and also in several off road racing shops. We don’t have a solid list on who all will be carrying them but if you are interested in carrying the shirts and selling them for donation money please contact us at info@4130clothing.com for details. The shirts will also be available for purchase in our online store for those of you who can’t make it to a physical location to pick the shirts up in person. As stated before, Fedex comped us on some shipping charges so a good amount of the online orders should ship for free.

The hardest thing to get donated towards this project has been the blank black T-shirts. We have had several vendors commit and then drop out, and it has created a very short time window for us to get these shirts printed in so that they’ll be available at the Carlsbad K1 DP8 Premier on August 29th. If ANYONE has any sort of connection to any business that sells or produces blank garments, please hit them up or refer their information to info@4130clothing.com so we can gather more blank T-shirts to be printed. Liquid Graphics has been generous enough to comp us on the print work, we just need to be able to supply them with all the blank T-shirts!

So be on the lookout for these shirts to be available very soon. By the beginning of next week there should be a press release going out with the official information on where to purchase the shirts and how you can get your hands on them if you are interested in selling them for donation money to your friends, family, and customers.

To everyone that is a part of this off road nation, thank you for all your continued support through this tough time. We at 4130 appreciate all the kind words of encouragement we’ve received over the past week and we will continue to stand strong behind our driver, Brett Sloppy. Our condolences go out to all the people who lost a friend or family member from the accident and we wish a speedy recovery to those who were hurt as well!

Celebrities Speak Out on Behalf of FAST-Aid

Celebrities Speak Out on Behalf of FAST-Aid, Companies Donate Large Sums, Fundraisers Being Planned for California 200 Accident

FAST-Aid Relief Fund for MDR California 200 Accident

LINK: http://www.fast-aid.org/california-200.html

MESA, AZ – AUGUST 24, 2010: Jesse James as seen on Access Hollywood, BJ Baldwin, Andy McMillin, Roger Norman, Chaplain Steve Hanson and a dozen other celebrities, racers and off road industry leaders have spoken in public support for FAST-Aid.org continuing the effort of generous response for the families of the casualties and the injured at the MDR California 200 off road race accident that happened August 14th. "So many people have contributed in so many ways. I am appreciative of Jesse James being willing to make positive use of the spotlight that has been cast on him. He single-handedly was able to put our cause on national television and show America what an incredible group of people the off-road family can be," said Jared Tetzlaff, President of FAST-Aid. (All Public Service Announcement speakers are listed below with the link to the appropriate Video)

To date, the California 200 fund has exceeded $120,000 with a response from over 800 generous donors. Multiple large donations have been received from Mango Racing, 4 Wheel Parts, Green Army Racing, Fox Racing Shox, BC Racing, Cameron Steele Desert Assassins/Yokohama TT #16, Race-Dezert.com, JSI Motorsports, Parkhouse Tires, The Factory Racing, Reid Products, and Canidae Racing Team.

The FAST-Aid team feels they are still over $50,000 away from their goal to properly assist the families, injured and those in need of emotional support if they were at the scene of the accident. The donation page is still active at www.fast-aid.org, and there are multiple fundraising events being created all over the US. Every Dezert People 8 premier will be a fundraising point and you can meet the FAST-Aid group at the SCORE Primm 300 race.

“Our family did not have extra money to pay for funeral costs. We don’t even know what we would do if it wasn’t for your help,” wrote a family member of the deceased in a note to FAST-Aid. The FAST-Aid board of directors has been working hard to contact the families of those hurt or deceased in the California 200 accident and let them know about the assistance available to them as a result of the incredible outpouring of support from the off-road family. Many families have been contacted and financial assistance has already begun to be sent out.

President Jared Tetzlaff states, “The entire board of directors has had a heavy heart this week in talking with those affected by the California 200 accident. We have been available to listen to families work through their grief as well as provide answers to how they will be able to honor the lives of their loved ones. The only benefit this all-volunteer board receives is seeing the families being less burdened during this difficult time when we’re able to be there to listen and provide financial assistance to them. All of the Fast-Aid volunteers have worked tirelessly this last week to ensure that the off-road family is taken care of and as sad as this tragedy is, we are all honored to do so. FAST-Aid is so proud of the off-road community and it’s response. Many people have given money, many people have given their time, and many people have given their name or expertise to help further this cause and it all makes a difference in the lives we are trying to impact.”

FAST-Aid, similar in nature to the Red Cross, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial, educational and personal assistance to injured racers, support teams and their families as well as ensures the necessary support is in place to complete a thorough recovery and rehabilitation from motor sports racing incidents.

To donate specifically to help the California 200 casualties, please go to http://www.fast-aid.org and note “California 200” on your donation and 100% of the funds received will be applied to assisting their families in this difficult time. Donations are tax-deductible. We are paying expenses directly to the people they owe money to. If they have already put expenses on a credit card, they will provide receipts for reimbursement or we will pay the credit card directly. This is the policy for all racers we help.

The Pain of Meeting A Father Who Lost His Daughter......

So now that I am on my comp and not on my phone I feel the need to elaborate on the days most important event. We arrived to where tech/contingency will take place tomorrow here in Vegas for the BITD Vegas 2 Reno Race Event. I decided that I would go talk to a few people who were already there and give them first crack at the Fast-Aid.org Memorial Ribbon Stickers that I had to try and raise money for the California 200 incident. I approach a group and ask if they would be interested in donating. Immediately Steve from Tracking International says "this gentleman was the father to the girl who lost her life..." My heart sank. I saw tears well up in his eyes as I began to explain that I am doing this on behalf of Fast-Aid and the entire off road community.

I explained that I know words cannot come close to replacing the feeling he must have but I assured him that we as a community do feel his pain and do want to do all we can to get behind him and his family to ensure that no other families have to endure this type of pain. He commenced to thank me, thank Fast-Aid, and thank the community for all the outpouring of love. He said this as he held back tears of obvious sorrow.

He then opened up a bit about the tragedy that took his daughters life.  He introduced me to his daughter's friend who was with her that dark day, she too was injured and walking with a limp.  He began to explain that he does not hold Brett Sloppy responsible for this horrific accident.  He understands that this was exactly that, an accident.  He does feel that the organization putting on this event does have responsibility in this and that it was their job to control this crowd and keep people back and away from the track, essentially enforcing the rules they have in place.

In all he was not trying to push blame, just saying that if there was anything that could have prevented this tragedy from occurring it would have been MDR keeping the people back off the track in one of the most popular spectating points of the marked race course.  As a fan and advocate of off road racing it is hard for me to think otherwise, and in his state I am in no place, nor is anyone to try and tell him or anyone who is suffering otherwise.

At the end of the day I feel proud to be a part of this community.  I feel proud to know some of the guys at Fast-Aid and feel proud to be able to go out and represent them and help them try to relieve some of these humans long term pain and suffering.  I guess what I am trying to say is as the days go on following this event, the pain for these family, friends, and victims does not subside as quickly as the memories of those of us who were not there or directly involved.  We all need to keep this fire burning, for a long time, for ever!  We need to never forget those who lost their lives, and certainly not forget about those family members and friends who lost someone they love.

Fast-Aid FOR LIFE, and I pledge to NEVER FORGET those who lost their lives at the California 200.

Desert Off-Road Racing Basics

What is desert off-road racing?

Desert Racing is a motorsport that takes place mostly in open deserts, forests and mountain areas. Most racing is held on public lands, with a few that are held on private property. In all cases the race organizers receive permission to hold the race from the land owner or manager. In the case of public land use in the U.S. the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is the government agency that issues such permits.

There are two types of race layouts. Point-to-point or lap based. Point-to-point means that the race starts in one location and ends at another without traveling over the same course more then once. A lap based race means that the race cars have to complete a set amount of laps to finish a race. Races are anywhere between 100 and 1000 miles in length. Average speeds are between 20 and 60 miles per hour depending on the vehicle and the terrain.

All races happen on existing roads like here in Nevada

All races happen on existing roads. These roads are used by power companies or farmers on days outside of the race event. Driving next to assigned road is often illegal by the land owner and promoter. When caught it will lead to a penalty or disqualification of the racer.

Typically the race course is surveyed for wildlife prior to being used and staying on the assigned race course assures a minimum impact on the environment. The idea that race cars just go wild in the desert is a misconception that may come from video games and movies. The fact is that the fastest way around a race course is on the existing dirt road. Driving next to the course in the wild desert you would have to conquer unknown rocks and plants that would not only ruin the wildlife but also slow you down or break your vehicle.

Class 11 is an unmodified VW Bug

Race cars are divided into multiple classes. At the bottom you have bone stock VW bugs, then modified pick-up trucks to purpose built race cars. Top speeds of 120mph can be reached but most of the time race cars will average much lower speeds.

All race cars undergo a safety inspection prior to the race. This assures that they are compliant within the class rules and meet safety standards. Over the years, the safety standards have increased to the point where injuries to race drivers are very rare.

This is similar to what has happened over the years to all forms of Motorsports. Just like a NASCAR vehicle can hit a concrete wall at over 100mph and the driver walks away from the accident, the same is true in desert racing. 5 Point seat belts, roll cage, fire retardant clothing, helmets and neck restraints are used and need to be re-certified frequently.

Race fans freely watch the race alongside the race course

Since the races happen on wide open public lands, spectating is often unrestricted. A race fan can watch the race at any point alongside the race course and often move alongside the course for a 2nd opportunity to see the race vehicles again miles later assuming the race course is longer then the access road in-between 2 spectating points. Some race courses are more restrictive then others and may only offer a few designated spectating points. Hardly ever is there an admission fee to watch the races happening.

At some known spectating areas that attract large crowds the spectating area is controlled with ropes and enforced by law enforcement or security provided by the race promoter. The Lucerne MDR California incident on August 14th is the first and only accident involving a race car hitting spectators in the capacity it happened. Eight spectators lost their lives and many more suffered major and minor injuries.

There have been accidents involving spectators over the years but they were rare and involved single spectators not large groups. Whenever such incidents happened measures where put in place to reduce this from happening again. Often speed limits were introduced in pit areas or security was increased to force crowds further away from the race course.

Large crowds gather prior to the Baja 500 to celebrate the race

Eduction to show the risks of spectating takes place constantly. Race promoters advise spectators to stay clear of the course, enthusiast forums such as this site (RDC) constantly discuss the dangers of standing too close. It is no secret that race cars need their space to go fast in a safe manner. The MDR promoter has clear guidelines posted on their website .

Despite the horrible accident that just happened, desert off-road racing has a very clean safety record. Millions of spectators and racers participate in races nearly every weekend and the casualty and injury count is very low. Spending the weekend night in any town and getting hit by a drunk driver is more likely to happen then suffering any harm surrounding an off-road race.

Desert racing is a family sport. Lots of families head out every weekend to the desert and enjoy driving in their jeeps, dirt bikes, quads or buggies. For most of us we discovered the beauty in our local deserts. Watched astounding sunsets, viewed plants bloom in the spring or watched coyotes from the distance. Some people watch NASCAR, some drive stock cars, some collect stamps and we like to play in the desert.

Not everyone may fully “get it”, but we hope to have you understand and respect what we the off-road racer do. Maybe come out to a race and experience it to get an understanding for our sport.

Off Roaders CALL TO ACTION!!!

We all know of the horrific accident that has taken place at the MDR California 200. Although we may not all be affected by a direct loss of loved one due to this event all of us can be dramatically affected in the long term because of it.

We need to do what we can to support our fallen off roaders but we also need to do what we can to support our desert race organizations to prevent this event from ending the sport so many of us love. Its easy to see that no desert racing will mean loss of jobs and possibly businesses closing up.

We are asking that all of us come together as we have before to support the cause here and write the BLM to show support for off road racing. Also we ask that you consider donating what you can to our affiliate sponsor FAST-Aid - Home. There is a special fund set up for the California 200 race that can be accessed here: http://www.fast-aid.org/california-200.html

We received this from Jim @ M.O.R.E. Racing-

"OK Racers and Fans Just had a meeting with the BLM as of right now they cannot give me any info on our upcoming race, they will let me know next week. As of now they have in mind to Closed Off Road Racing. You need to E mail or call now saying you are against this closing. to E... mail them you need to go to the BLM site as they are not listing their e mail address. you need to fill out their questionnaire. You need to do this in a good way, and explain to them the lost of shutting this down and the effect it will have on our Racing Community."

Here is the BLM contact info :

See More http://www.blm.gov/

I urge everyone that reads this to modify it to fit yourself and send it on to your BLM reps. The sport of desert racing is under attack by eco's and the motorized off-road haters. The letter was originally drafted by Chad Ragland and he asked all of us to modify it to fit us and then send it in. Send it to your off-roading friends also and ask them to do the same.
Thank you for helping us in this...

RE: MDR Off-road race in Lucerne, Aug. 14, 2010

Even though this accident happened in another BLM District, I feel it affects all of us, especially us in the desert southwest.

I understand that this is a very difficult time for the BLM as well as the entire off-road community. The tragic loss of eight and the injuries of many more will take a long time to recover from, if ever. As a semi-professional off-road racer and avid outdoors adventurer, I am sending this email to show my support for the BLM and sanctioned off-road racing events. I am aware of the negative way the media has already began to portray off-road racing. I think this is unfair, and not responsible. There is danger in almost everything we do. Driving on America's public roads and highways is still one of the most dangerous things we can do. The death of eight and the injury of several more at the MDR race in Lucerne is a terrible accident, and devastating to all those involved as well as the BLM and off-road racing community. A tragic accident, but still, an accident.

I believe in enjoying this beautiful country and in the BLM for managing our public lands. I know of no better group that appreciates our public lands, that uses our public lands, and wants to see our public lands continue to be a safe and enjoyable, than off-roaders. For over forty years, I, and now my children, have been participating in off-road racing, and it has become not only my passion, but also my second career. I believe off-road racing is an important and legitimate way to experience public lands. I would like to see positive come from this tragedy as I am sure the BLM as well. I think this is possible.

I hope off-road racing and the BLM can continue to work together in a mutually beneficial relationship that continues to provide recreation, enjoyment, and livelihood for a great many of Americans. Lets make this accident/incident be a stepping stone to improve the sport for all. I know a few of the spectators that were involved in the accident or watched it happen, and can state positively, they would want the sport to continue and prosper.

Thank you for your time and attention in this.
